Shiseido

Shiseido Urban Environment UV Protection Line!

Just in time for trips to warmer climates & other vacations, Shiseido has launched a trio of new skincare products. I would be lying if I said I was a fan of Shiseido’s suncare in the past – but these three products looked too good to not try. The Urban Environment line consists of a UV protection cream (SPF 40) for face and body. An oil free protector (SPF 42) for face, and three shades of a tinted UV protector (SPF 43).

The tinted creams and the Oil Free Protector are both 30 ml, and retail for $35.00 CAD. The cream for face/body is a 50ml and retails for $40.00 CAD.

These products (especially the Oil Free Protector and the Tinted UV Protectors) are super light, and could easily be added into your daily routine.

Now, you may or may not know about my love for the Clarins UV40 products, both the original and the tinted. After using both of these, I have noticed some clear differences between them. The Shiseido Oil Free Protector, provides a much more matte finish than the Clarins. And it is designed to absorb excess oil throughout the day. Me being a dry skin type, this doesn’t mean much, but if you have an oily skin type, I would definitely choose the Shiseido.

Shiseido also wins in the shade selection department. Clarins UV40 comes in two shades (light and medium) and the light can tend to run a little yellow, especially on very fair skin tones. Shiseido shade 1 is great for fair skin tones. These tinted creams finish to quite a dewy finish, while the Clarins tints will be more appropriate for an oilier skin. Below are the swatches for Shiseido shades 1, 2, and 3.

Another clear difference between the two different tints is the coverage. The Clarins provides a similar coverage as a foundation, yet feels as light as air on the skin. The Shiseido creams definitely sheer out a little more, but are still a great product for those who want a little coverage along with their sunscreen.

All of these Shiseido products are meant to be used as your last step of skincare, before your first step of makeup.

All in all, I am very impressed with this line. To be honest – it’s January, so I haven’t been able to test these in absolute sunny conditions, but these will definitely be in my summer rotation!

What are your favorite suncare products?

2014 Favorites! Skincare Edition!

Hi everyone! Hope you all had an amazing holiday and are looking forward to the New Year! I have written out three separate posts for my 2014 Favorites. Skincare, Face and Body, and Makeup. I am going to start with the skincare, as I have found some really good products this year, that I will continue to use into 2015.

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/90b/62657476/files/2014/12/img_5098.jpg

Clarins Double Serum: Technically I started using this product in 2013, but I have continued using it throughout this year, and it still remains a top shelf product in my opinion. My skin loves the texture of this, and I always feel hydrated when I am using it. I go through this product quickly, as I use about 4 pumps morning and night, and take it right down to my chest. The radiance this gives my skin can’t be beat!

Vichy Mineral Balm: I recently did a full review on this product. This is something that is a fairly specific product. If you are someone who works in cold conditions, or runs in the wintertime, or just have super dry skin like me, you should definitely try this. It is the perfect example of a complete barrier cream. And, I was able to put makeup on top of it, which was a nice surprise!

Shiseido Wrinkle Resist 24 Eye Cream: This eye cream is so much better than anything I have ever used. Seriously, I have not gone through an eye cream as fast as I do with this one. My eyes are a problem zone for me, but if I am not seeing or feeling results, I will neglect a product. I have not missed a morning or a night application of this since I opened the jar, and I have anxiety for when it finishes. It is so hydrating, and smoothes the lines around my eyes.

Bioderma: I’ll be quick with this, as I talk about this all the time. It’s a super gentle cleansing water that removes makeup from your face and eyes. No fragrance, alcohol, parabens…. I could go on and on. This has been a favorite for years, but I just had to include it.

Clarins Foaming Cleanser: These cleansers are amazing. I have tried both the Normal/Combination formula, and the Dry/Sensitive formula, and love both. You need the smallest amount, and they work very well with my Clarisonic. These leave your skin feeling clean, but not stripped of all it’s moisture. I have repurchased these over and over all year.

La Roche Posay Nutritic Intense Riche: This was another cream that worked really well for me this year. It’s a super rich cream that still manages to feel light on the skin. It can be applied under makeup, and is a great option for sensitive skin. At $39.00CAD, this is a fairly affordable option, and truly kept my skin hydrated while I was using it. It really locked the moisture into my skin, but never felt greasy, or clogged any pores.

Those are six of my skincare favorites for 2014! I had so many products that I loved, but these were the six that really stood out to me!

What were your favorite skincare products of 2014?

Thanks for reading!

Sara’s November Favorites!

It’s December. How did that even happen? I had to take a break from decorating the Christmas tree, to let you guys know everything that I loved this past month!

IMG_4782.JPG

First of all, the background. Plaid. Some of you might be surprised to know that I am a total country girl. I love plaid, and I usually drink everything out of a mason jar. Anything that has a black and red plaid pattern on, I need to have it. Anyway, the point of the story is, if anyone finds a massive blanket scarf in this pattern, please let me know. And I mean big. Like Lenny Kravitz big. Check out this scarf!!

IMG_4738.PNG

Seriously, a scarf that big sounds perfect to me. I think I’ll need to start looking into couch blankets!

Back to the favorites. The first one is the Essence Silky Touch blushes. I have several shades, and I love all of them. They blend super easily, and they last throughout the day on my skin. The shade pictured here is 20 Adorable. They are so affordable, which just makes it easy to have the whole collection!

Maybelline Lash Discovery: This mascara isn’t available to purchase in Halifax, but the next time I go to the states, I will be bringing back several tubes of this. I started using it only on my lower lashes, but quickly started using it on my top and bottom lashes, and I absolutely love it. It doesn’t flake, and it really defines my lashes. It’s a different look, as it doesn’t give as much volume as my beloved Lancôme mascara, but I am really enjoying it!

Shiseido Wrinkle Resist 24 Eye Cream: This eye cream is magical. I’ve raved about this before, but I recently finished a Clinique eye cream (That did absolutely nothing) and a few days after switching to this, I’ve noticed my eye area much more smoothed and hydrated. You can apply this day and night, and when applied at night, you can wake up hours later, and still feel the hydration around your eyes. It is absolutely fantastic.

Garnier Texture Tease: This texture spray is a wonderful product for the price. It smells amazing, and gives awesome texture. My only gripe is that it tangles my hair pretty badly. I started using this early November and my can is almost gone!

Victor and Rolf Flowerbomb: This fragrance is amazing. The funny thing is, everyone always puts it in the same sentence as Angel. I don’t know if I’ve ever broadcasted my distaste for Angel on this blog, but I just can’t handle it. It’s way too strong, and just gives me such a headache I can’t deal. Flowerbomb however, is beautiful. I literally press the rollerball to my wrist, and that’s enough for me. The scent lasts for hours, and my boyfriend always compliments me when I have this on. (Which is huge – he’s not exactly one to notice things like that!)

Clarins Fix Makeup: I opened a new bottle of this for Halloween, to spray myself down after painting myself yellow to be Marge Simpson. I continued to use it, and I am always surprised at the difference it makes in my makeup wear time. It’s beautiful! And also really helps for those days that your skin looks a little overdone. It subtly gets rid of the powder look, and pulls everything together.

Elizabeth Arden Brow Pencil in Brownette: This brow pencil was a favorite of mine awhile ago, and when I started using another pencil, this got put to the side. I put it in my travel bag, and I pulled it out awhile ago to use and remembered why I loved it in the first place. The spooly brush is perfect, and the formula is amazing for brows. Highly recommend this!

Smashbox Master Class III Palette: I bought this in the Summer, used it a few times and then forgot about it. I saw it in a You Tube video recently, and got inspired to pull it out and use it again. The contour shade is amazing, and the eyeshadows are just like icing sugar. If you have been thinking about this, but we’re on the fence, you definitely should take the jump and get it. I’ve had zero regrets.

Those are my favorites for November! What have you guys been loving?

June Favorites!

I am writing this with the disbelief that June is over already. I have hardly made a dent in my after sun products, and have yet to get myself into a bathing suit. Summer is slipping away fast, so to cheer myself up, let’s talk about the things that rocked my world in June.

20140623-133714-49034239.jpg

Micro Pedi: This has been a favorite since I purchased it, but this month has been especially great with this little device, as I replaced my roller head, and purchased the Micro Pedi Man refills. They are coarser than the ones they make for women, and all of them fit, no matter if you have the base made for women or men. I find it to be working faster, and just more efficient. I doubt I will purchase the women refills again, because when it comes to feet, softer is always better.

Shiseido Radiant Lifting Foundation: I have a full blog post on this foundation. It has become my absolute favorite, and I have been wearing it literally every single day. It provides full coverage, while giving you a dewy, hydrated look. For my readers who have dry skin, this is an absolute must have. For reference, I wear the shade B40.

Clarins Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster: When I first used this, I was a little skeptical, and terrified at the same time. (That’s totally normal when it comes to self tanners) This product gives me the smallest hint of color, which actually is just what I need. When I self tan, my legs and my face are the first to fade. (Shaving and my Clarisonic exfoliate my skin super fast!) So when my face is a little lighter than the rest of my body, I will throw three drops of this into my night cream, and wake up pretty evened out. This was one of those products that I didn’t know I needed, until I started using it.

Essence Silky Touch Blush in Babydoll: This blush was a total surprise to me. I was on the hunt for a nude blush, and when I saw this one, it was so cheap I couldn’t say no. I used it once, and actually have ben reaching for it almost daily this month. This was an awesome purchase for the price, and it lasts on my skin almost all day.

Alluring Aquatic Extra Dimension Bronzer in Aphrodite’s Shell: This was apart of a limited edition collection, so I’m not totally sure that you can still get it… But this bronzer works very well for me. It almost feels like a gel texture, and it never looks chalky on me. I have abandoned my NYC Sunny for this, and I couldn’t be happier.

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Misia: This product is a different shade for me, it is a definite coral, almost bordering on an orange. I always gravitate towards pink, or fuchsia, but this one just caught my eye, and although I am still getting used to it, I have worn this a lot this month. I love the Coco Shine formula, and this is a great color for summer.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Body Beauty Balm: I tried this product on my arm in store, and immediately put it in my basket. Sabah was shocked at how fast I made a decision, as usually I take roughly 6 months to commit to purchasing something. I have a weakness for body products, and while I didn’t expect this to give me the visible firming/tightening that my beloved Clarins High Definiton Body Lift does, it made my skin feel very cool, and gave me a shimmer that I always get compliments on. It smells like mint, so beware of that if you aren’t a fan, but I am loving this stuff.

Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel: This cleanser has been so well loved this month, and I am over halfway through it. It is so luxurious, and I look forward to using it at the end of a long day. I love cleansers that give you incentive to wash your face at the end of the night, because sometimes you need an extra push to get you to the sink.

What are your favorites this month? If you’re a blogger and have a favorites post, let me know in the comments below! I love to read them!

Fancy vs Frugal Friday: Facial Cotton!

This FvsFF has a love/hate product in it for me. I was introduced to this stuff about 6 years ago when it still retailed for $6.00 CAD. It has since been growing in popularity, and now retails for $11.00 CAD, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the raised the price again. I cannot live without this stuff. I had been using cotton that fell apart on my lashes, and ended up irritating my eyes more than actually helping to take my makeup off. When I got my hands on my first pack of Shiseido cotton, my world changed. It is so soft, it never falls apart or rips on my skin, and it gets the job done every time. It also can take off all of my nail polish on all 10 toes, using just one pad. I remember the day at work when the memo came down that Quo was going to release their “Luxury” cotton pads. They were square, they were 100% cotton, and they retail for $7.50, but unlike Shiseido, these go on sale here and there for as low as $3.99 CAD. The very first say they were shipped, I bought a pack and immediately used a Quo pad on one side, and a Shiseido pad on the other side of my face. I was kind of smug, and disappointed at the same time when I realized very quickly that Quo was just not going to live up to the Shiseido. It tore a little bit, and it just didn’t hold up to my mascara. After that, I did a test, I placed a clean dry Kleenex down on my table, and put three pumps of Bioderma on both cottons. After about 30 seconds, I lifted the pads up, only to see that the Kleenex was completely dry where the Shiseido cotton was. And underneath of the Quo, was a massive puddle. The product went right through it, and I know with my pump style Bioderma, the product would end up all over my hands instead of in my cotton.

shiseido

I tell people everyday that if you buy Shiseido cotton once, you need to be mentally prepared to spend $11.00 or more on cotton for the rest of your life. Consider yourself warned. The girls at work and I have agreed that we would probably buy it until it hit $15.00 CAD. That’s where we have drawn the line.

Fancy wins this week! In my opinion, nothing beats Shiseido cotton. Absolutely nothing.

Haul Post: Brand new goodies!

Every once in awhile, a girl just needs to go out and spend an unjustifiable amount of money on makeup and skincare. I try to be more disciplined in other areas of my life (such and clothes and .. food) because when it comes to makeup, all bets are off. I hit a few stores today and wanted to show you guys what I picked up!
haul

First I went to Sephora, and as usual, the Yves Saint Laurent wall was calling my name. These guys know how to package products, and as we all know, packaging matters to me. Sometimes I will overlook flaws in a product because of their packaging. Anyway, I picked two items, Le Teint Touché Éclat foundation in BR30, and a Rouge Vouplté lipstick in shade number 9. The YSL lipsticks have some of the best packaging in the industry, and made it into a previous post of mine, about lipsticks that I bought for the packaging.

Then I headed to my mecca, otherwise known as the Beauty Boutique of Shoppers Drug Mart and picked up a few things. I needed another Porefessional, as mine is going to finish very soon, and the new packaging for this product is way cuter than the old! This stuff is incredible, I love it, especially when I am not wearing foundation, but I just want to even out my skin tone and reduce some redness. I also got a new eye cream, because my Bobbi Brown is hitting pan rapidly, and this girl cannot be caught dead without an eye cream. It is the Shiseido Bio-Performance Super Corrective Eye Cream, and I love that it has a pump on the packaging. I am tired of sticking my fingers in a jar all the time. Also, I just found out today that my beloved Shiseido Wrinkle Resist24 eye cream is being discontinued. So here`s hoping this one can fill it`s shoes!

On my way out, I spotted a Got2b product that caught my eye, it`s a volumizing powder and meant to give a ton of body to your roots. I have used the hair potion by Aveda before and I hope this one works the same way! Then, I picked up one of the new Revlon Colorburst Matte Balms, in Standout. I used this one right away in the parking lot, and I love it! It might become my new favorite red. They`re matte, but not drying in the least!

Those are the new additions to my collection, looking forward to using them, and let me know if you guys want me to review any of them!

Have a great day!
