Review: CoverGirl Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation!

Recently, I had a very bad reaction to a new cleansing balm that I tried. It was a doozy, and it made me really question what I am going to do with my skin. I went to my beauty stash, pulled almost all of the skincare that I had, and gave it all to Sabah. Creams, serums, exfoliants … Everything. I stopped using almost every product I had, and went back to Cetaphil cleanser and CeraVe moisturizer. That along with blasts and blasts of Avene Thermal Water, and my skin is finally getting back to normal. The reason I am telling you guys this, is because the way I have my unopened products stored is in boxes. Boxes of skincare, boxes of liners, mascaras, blushes, powders, foundations etc. everything has it’s own box. Now that my skincare boxes are almost empty, I realized that I had so many foundations, I could fill two boxes. I needed to start trying new things. This brought me to open the new CoverGirl Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation.

This oil free foundation has been getting really good reviews online, but mostly from people that have oily skin. I worried that this foundation would dry my skin out, but I just had to try it. I love squeeze tubes, the price is right, and it promised me good coverage. I picked the shade 120, which is embarrassingly a little too dark for me right now. I’ve been using this for awhile now, and these are my thoughts!

IMG_5452
The texture of this foundation is nice. It’s not too fluid, and not too thick. After applying with a brush, fingers, and a beauty blender, I have decided that I like the application with the beauty blender the best. This foundation doesn’t catch on my dry patches, but I do like to wear a radiance primer underneath, as my skin looks a little dull without it. Lasting power seems to be okay, I am battling a very bad cold right now, so I am always red around the nose at the end of the day. Not the foundations fault, and everywhere else held up super well. I’ve had no issues with clogged pores or breakouts, and this foundation does not oxidize on me throughout the day. My obsession with glowy skin causes me to add a radiance primer, and douse myself in MAC Fix Plus after application. I got this foundation on sale for $6.99CAD, and for the price I would totally recommend it. If you are more of a combo/oily skin, I think you would really like this. Super dry skins, I would stick to my L’oreal True Match Lumi recommendation.

Have you guys tried this yet? I’ve heard only positive things about it, but mostly negative things about the concealer …. Weird hey?

January Favorites!

Can anyone even believe the first month of 2015 is over yet? I have yet to really think of any resolutions, but I did just get a FitBit, so maybe I will jump on the fitness train. (Ok- I couldn’t even get through typing that without laughing!) I loathe exercise. I also love food. Food and I have a relationship that is so strong, I can’t see us ever parting ways. We always agree with eachother, and we love in harmony.

Luckily for me, my beauty favorites of the month don’t have nearly as many calories as some of my favorite foods – so let’s jump into my most reached for products for this month!

IMG_5515

YSL Black Opium: This fragrance has had my heart all month. I loved it as soon as I smelled it, and it’s a rare fragrance that Almira, Sabah and I all like. It is a warmer, deeper scent, but isn’t overly musky or offensive. You have to smell this next time you’re out!

Number 7 Microdermabrasion: I just reviewed this product a few days ago on the blog. I haven’t reached for it for awhile, and boy am I glad it’s back in my life. This product gives you such an amazing exfoliation. Smooth skin and less irritation than a lot of other scrubs that I have used! I highly recommend this.

IMG_5596

Sonia Kashuk Eyes on Neutral Palette: I have used this every single day since I got it. No joke. And I am falling more and more in love. These shadows blend so beautifully, and they are all matte. I will be buying a back up of this, hopefully if I can find one at Target before they shut down.

Cover Girl Ready Set Gorgeous! Foundation: I was surprised with this foundation. I have a full review coming this week, so stay tuned for that. The gist of it is, it doesn’t settle on my dry patches, and the coverage is really nice. I’m in the shade 120, which works for me, but I could have actually gone a shade lighter. (I’m translucent not very tanned in the winter.

Benefit Puff Off!: This product really smooths out my undereye area. The adorable packaging is not only eye catching, but practical. Keep this sucker in the fridge, and use it in the morning! It can be layered underneath another eye cream, and will iron out those undereye bags for you before (or after) you apply your makeup!

IMG_5597

Garnier Damage Eraser Hair Mask: This was recommended by Tiffany D on YouTube, and I am really happy with it. It is so nourishing, but rinses clean and doesn’t leave my fine hair looking or feeling heavy. I’ve actually used this as my regular conditioner for awhile and I love it. I purchased the shampoo from the same line, but haven’t tried it out yet. Here’s hoping I love it!

Aveeno Ezcema Care Hand Cream: This has been a favorite for a few months! I finished a tube completely, and promptly repurchased. It’s the only hand cream that doesn’t irritate me when my Ezcema is flaring up on my hands. It makes me think that Oatmeal must be a truly magical ingredient.

What were your favorites this month!?

Current Top 5 Red Lipsticks!

Tis the season to wear red lips … Fa la la la la la la la la …

I have been really loving red lips lately. I have gone through and picked 5 of my current favorites. Before I start anything, I have to give an honourable mention to my beloved Baby Lips in Cherry Me. It’s a red that has a lot of pink in it, and is a great starter red for someone who might be intimidated by a stronger color

IMG_4740.JPG

Starting from left to right…

Lancôme Rouge in Love 182 N : This is a beautiful red that makes your teeth look like pearly whites. These lipsticks have a long lasting finish, without being overly drying. No need for a lipliner with this one either, the color is very highly pigmented, and this works well by itself.

Lise Watier Rouge Fondant Supreme in Marilyn: This lipstick line from Lise Watier is rocking my world right now. Marilyn is a beautiful red, that feels like a fluffy pillow on your lips. A lipliner is a nice partner with this formula, as it is super hydrating and can have the tendency to travel outside of the lip line a little bit. But overall these are amazing, and if you are just getting into reds, this is a great choice.

Clarins Joli Rouge in Poppy Red: I know that this lipstick is getting discontinued in the near future, but if you want a beautiful easy to wear red lipstick, get your hands on this before it’s gone. This is the most sheer of the bunch, and it pulls a lot of pink color, so it’s not as alarming as a full on red. The texture of these lipsticks are great, and while the wear time isn’t overly impressive, this one wears off evenly, and doesn’t give you that dreaded ring around the mouth.

Covergirl Lip Perfection in Seduce: This lipstick is no joke. It’s a one swipe, no muss no fuss red. It definitely stains the lips, and lasts probably the longest of all five of these lipsticks. The formula is perfect, not too hydrating, but not too drying. And this deep shade of red screams seduction. It’s name is dead on! Everytime I put this lipstick on, I feel like a totally different person.

Rimmel Moisture Renew lipstick in Diva Red: This might be the deepest shade of red that I’ve chosen. And it is definitely the most hydrating. I cannot say enough about the texture of these lipsticks, they are so creamy and so hydrating, even the driest lips can wear them. I like to use a clear lipliner with this, because I don’t want to make the color any deeper, but again due to the hydrating formula, they can travel a little bit …

That’s it guys, those are my favorite five reds at the moment! Special shoutout to the Hourglass lipstick in Icon … That one is also one of my favorites!

What red lipstick is your favorite?

Empties: Products I’ve used up!

I am giddy as I write this post. I have had a day of Spring Cleaning. Washing curtains, and vacuuming the little corners that sometimes get missed in everyday maintenance. I also noticed that my empties bucket has grown enough to do a post, which means I can clear this stuff out of the house too! Is there anything better than purging? And getting rid of stuff that you see everyday and never use? It makes me so happy!

Anyway, let’s get into it! Good things, bad things, and would I repurchase … Keep in mind, I have a very reactive skin type, so just because I didn’t like something, doesn’t mean it won’t work for you!

20140615-120110-43270072.jpg

From right to left:

Clarins Eye Contour Gel: I opened this last year, and used it a few times, and kept it in the fridge. (Great way to help with puffiness!)
I noticed the skin around my eye started to flake, and I stopped using it. I found it today and honestly threw the rest in the garbage, as I am scared that this was the reason my “snake” eye started. I wouldn’t repurchase, but I do know lots of people who love this product.

Givenchy Haute Couture Mascara: This mascara was ridiculously expensive, and to be honest, it was a really nice product. It has a bubble wand, and I was surprised at how much I liked this. That being said, Lancôme Hypnose still works better for me, and it doesn’t cost as much as the Givenchy. I wouldn’t repurchase, but I am glad that I tried it! I also kept the tube, as it’s just too pretty to throw out.

L’Oreal Ever Cream Hair Masque: This product was discontinued, and I stocked up when I found out. This mask works really well for me, and I would absolutely repurchase if I could find it anywhere … If you see this gem, pick it up!!

CoverGirl Lash Blast Mascara: This was a mascara that I threw in my travel bag, for those times that I stayed somewhere overnight unexpectedly or needed a quick touch up throughout the day. This mascara really does nothing for me, and I am glad to be getting rid of it. No repurchase plans here.

Ballmania Lip Balm: These came out before EOS (at least in Canada) and I really prefer them. They make my lips smoother, and they smell amazing. This is an empty that I will be hanging onto, because it’s also one of Dexter’s favorite cat toys.

La Roche Posay Redermic C: This is a retinol product designed for sensitive skin. I am happy to report that I had no reaction to this product. I used this from time to time as a serum under my night cream, and I really felt that it was exfoliating my skin. In the morning I would wash my face, and my skin was left super smooth. It wasn’t enough of a life changer to repurchase, but I am impressed that I got through a retinol product with no reaction!

Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray: I got this in a variety kit last holiday season, and I really liked this product. It did exactly what it said it would, and I really had no complaints except for the price. I probably won’t repurchase, as I think the drugstore offers similar products for such a cost difference, but I wouldn’t complain if it was gifted to me! 🙂

Biotherm Skinergenic Cream: This product didn’t hydrate my skin enough. I tried it for a about a week, but my skin started flaking again, and I just had to start with something that would give my more moisture. I ended up using this as a foot cream after my Micro Pedi. If you have a normal skin type, this might be a good product fror you to try, it smells amazing!

Bioderma Micellar Water: No need to ramble about this, you all know I always have like three back ups of this product. I will repurchase until the end of time!

Benefit Porefessional: This is one of my favorite beauty products. I don’t use it as a primer though. I actually like to use this on days when I don’t wear makeup. It evens out the skin like nothing else, and it also tames down some redness in my skin. I have two back ups, and will repurchase more for sure!!

What have you guys finished up lately!?

Makeup Disagreements between friends …

Sara and I spend an alarming amount of time together, have similar skin types and our shades vary only in levels of pinkness. That being said we usually agree on our products, so when there is a disagreement it is often explosive and sometimes violent. Here are three examples of face products that we didn’t agree on….to the point that we are arguing about it as I write this while we drink wine and watch Pulp Fiction.

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer: Sara loves this product while I would rather go to bed in a full face of makeup before a wedding. While Sara experiences great coverage and lasting power with brightness I experience flashes of rage. Sara has already done a post on her experiences with this product, check out the link!

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Full Coverage Foundation: I love this product. Love Love Love. It gives me amazing coverage and lasts all day. Sara experienced none of this, she hated this product. She actually returned the foundation (a gift from me for her birthday, managing to hijack my Sephora points). She did however love the powder from same line.

Cover Girl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 Foundation: Ughh I scowled even writing the name of this mediocre product. I hate this foundation, there was no coverage and it separated. Sara, she loves this foundation because for her it has great coverage, SPF 20, looks natural, has a pump and lasts her all day.

Here’s to hoping our friendship survives our frequent makeup arguments!

Empties Post: Bring on the trash!

I have to say, ever since I have been blogging, I have been cruising through my products, and it’s making me super happy. I have more room for my collection, I don’t have tons of half empty products around, and I love these kind of posts. Empties posts/videos are probably my favorite things to watch and read. Hopefully you guys appreciate the trash just as much as I do! Let’s get into it!
20140507-110348.jpg

Avene Gentle Body Scrub: This is something that I found in the back of my bathroom closet. I was using it awhile ago, and ended up putting it away because I hated the smell of it. It only had a small amount left, so I polished it off (pun intended) but I wouldn’t repurchase. It left little small red beads everywhere which was odd, and like I said the smell was a bit offensive to me.

Philosophy Senorita Margarita: These three in one products from Philosophy are amazing, and I feel like anyone who finishes a full size should be rewarded. I was tired of the scent by the time I got to the bottom, but I will more than likely repurchase in another scent. I find Philosophy always nails it, and their smells are bang on.

L’Oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara: This was a product that I knew I was going to hate before I even opened it. I got it in a gift bag awhile back at an event, and I recently had an infection in one of my eyes, which meant all of my eye makeup had to be tossed. This was the one I opened right after my eye healed. I didn’t want to crack into a Hypnose, in case I had to throw it away again. This mascara flaked on me, and it was the most awkward brush I’ve ever worked with. Garbage!

CoverGirl with Olay Concealer Balm: I loved this concealer. I ended up using it like a stick foundation somedays, and I finished it right to the bottom. It had great coverage, wasn’t too dry so I was able to put it under my eyes, and it lasted a fair amount through the day. I would repurchase this for sure. I might get a darker color to contour with …

Fresh Sugar Balm: This product is the perfect base for lipsticks. I know everyone raves about the EOS balms for that, but they really dry my lips out. I use this product by itself, or as a base for my lipsticks. This one got seriously emptied as I went at it with a q-tip near the end. I would repurchase this for sure, I might wait until Sephora does a bonus set.

Cliniderm NutriComfort Soothing Body Balm: Ok, this body cream shocked the hell out of me. I opened it thinking I would get it out of the way, and I was not expecting to fall in love with it as much as I did. It was heaven for my super dry legs. It is a very thick balm like cream, but when you apply it, it doesn’t feel overly sticky or tacky. One thing I noticed about it was after I applied it, I was able to put my jeans or leggings on almost right away. That is unheard of for super hydrating creams. It had no fragrance, and made my skin literally glow. I will be repurchasing this if the body creams I have to open at home don’t stack up. Awesome product!

St. Tropez Bronzing Mousse: This is about my fourth bottle of this product. I love it. It dries super fast, doesn’t have that dreaded self tan smell. I have a full post on this product HERE so check that out if you are just getting into self tanner!

Cauldalie Hand and Nail Cream: This is my second tube of this. I will be repurchasing the full size, as this hand cream is a game changer for me. It really helps my dermatitis on my hands, and the scent is perfect for me. I will be cutting that tube open right about … now.

Maybelline Baby Lips in Cherry Me: I won’t go on and on about this, since I talk about it all the time. SPF 20, perfect hint of color, it’s a must have. And I have probably gone through 4 tubes now. I have already repurchased two of them!

Batiste Tropical Dry Shampoo: I love Batiste dry shampoos, I will repurchase, but I will probably stick to the original as I prefer the scent!

L’Oreal Butterfly Effect Mascara: Yet another mascara that I hated. It flaked so badly on me, didn’t seem to do anything except make my lashes darker, and the brush was horrible for me. I’d love to know what you guys thought of his mascara .. Am I alone in hating it?

Redken Real Control Hair Mask: The Real Control shampoo and conditioner were in my last empties post, and I found that it was weighing my hair down. The girl who sold them to me said it was good for dry hair, but my hairdresser quickly told me to stop using it because it was too heavy for my fine hair, and switched me to the Redken All Soft. I finished this mask using it as a shave cream!

CoverGirl Liquiline Eyeliner: This was yet another product that had to go due to my eye infection. It’s nowhere near done, but I am half glad to be getting rid of it. I hated this as an eyeliner, as it smudged everywhere, but I did like to use it as a base for a smokey eye. That worked for me! I wouldn’t repurchase, although I always look at the blue and green shades …

EOS Shave Cream: I heard so many people rave about this product, and the color of the packaging was what really what sold me. I was disappointed with this. I know it says “Shave Cream”, but I still prefer something that foams and rinses clean. This rinsed off in massive gobs that made the bottom of the shower so slippery, I am surprised I didn’t break my hip. I won’t be repurchasing, as I am not ready to spend 10 minutes after every shower meticulously cleaning the shower floor to prevent a fall!

Soap and Glory Body Butter: This came in a travel pack I got awhile back ago. I can only stand to use it when I am outside, as the smell is too strong for me. But, the product itself is nice. I wouldn`t repurchase, but I might keep the small jar for travel!

NARS Dolce Vita: This lipstick is amazing. It literally is the same color as my natural lips, so it`s the perfect on the go lipstick. I will probably melt down the rest of this and put it in a palette … I am not ready to break up with it yet! I would repurchase this for sure!

That was a lot of trash … Another massive mountain of stuff to get rid of, making room for new products!

What have you guys emptied out lately?? If you are a beauty blogger, leave your blog name in the comments so I can go see!

Have an awesome day everyone!

Tag Wednesday: The four or more tag!

What a day it has been. I went out on the deck to have my morning tea and relax, and I find my cat Dexter trying to break into a birdhouse that is housing a family of baby birds. Fact about me: I am terrified of birds, and avoid them as much as I can. The whole drama resulted in me poking a broom at Dexter, yelling at him to get down out of the tree.
20140427-124443.jpg
After all of that, I was thankful for a relaxing Tag Wednesday post. This is a tag I saw emilynoel83 do on Youtube, and it’s my favorite one I have seen in a long time. The whole premise is to show products that you have four or more of. This really shows what products work well for you, and I can’t wait to see what everyone else has, the more these videos and blogs go up.
I won’t lie, most of these are lip products, as they are more inexpensive (normally) and it’s rare that I will have four or more of the same foundation or powder hanging around. Here we go!
20140427-114712.jpg
Clarins Rouge Éclat Lipsticks: I have these in (left to right) 01 Nude Rose, 04 Tropical Pink, 11 Passion Red, and 13 Woodrose.

Revlon Lipsticks: 510 Berry Rich, 453 Love that Pink, 745 Raspberry Bite and 840 Honey Bare.

Maybelline Lipsticks: 805 Pink Freeze, 976 Rose Quartz, 977 Rockin Fuchsia and 975 Moonstone Mauve.

CoverGirl Lipsticks: 395 Darling, 325 Spellbound, 310 Smitten and 350 Etheral.

Revlon Lip Butters: 047 Pink Lemonade, 090 Sweet Tart, 095 Crème Brulee, 050 Berry Smoothie, 080 Strawberry Shortcake, 053 Sorbet, 085 Sugar Plum, 001 Pink Truffle, 025 Peach Parfait and 063 Wild Watermelon.

MAC lipsticks: Pink Nouveau, Party Line, Syrup, Crème Cup, and Candy Yum Yum.
20140427-130355.jpg

Clarins Blush Prodige: 04 Sunset Coral, 02 Soft Peach, 03 Miami Pink, 05 Rosewood.

MAC eyeshadows: Omega, Bronze, Shroom, All that Glitters, and Black Tied.

Maybelline Baby Lips: **Sidenote, my favorite one I have actually isn’t posted, as I can’t find it. The Cherry Me shade, is INCREDIBLE! 25 Pink Punch, 60 Melon Mania, 70 Pink Shock, 30 Peach Kiss and 90 Minty Sheer.

Clarins Joli Rouge Lipsticks: 734 Poppy Red, 702 Rose Sorbet, 705 Soft Berry and 736 Pink Magnolia.

Marc Jacobs Fragrance: (Not going to lie, the bottles do it to me everytime) Daisy Eau So Fresh, Oh Lola!, Daisy, Daisy Eau So Fresh (Sunshine edition)

Benefit Box o’Powders: Dandelion, Coralista, Sugarbomb, 10, Georgia, Throbb, Dallas, Bella Bamba, Hervana, Hoola and Rockateur.

Phew – now I have to admit, I am sure I have four or more of other products, but I don’t want to bore everyone, and make this a three day post!

Tell me some of yours! What do you have four or more of??
