Dark circles are a thing of the past thanks to Clarins Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base!

Dark Circles. Dark circles. Dark Circles. Working in cosmetics, I talk about dark circles probably 45 times a day. This is something that a lot of women struggle with, and I have been noticing some darkness under my own eyes lately. Waking up early to shovel and defrost the ice cube that I call Ruby (my car), has started to cause issues underneath of my eyes.

Luckily, I have a product that truly helps me out. Clarins Radiance Boosting Complexion Base is actually meant to be used as a primer, mixed in with foundation, or wore alone to enhance the complexion, but this little gem packs a serious punch when layered underneath of your undereye concealer.

I have this in the color Champagne, which has a pretty strong orange tone to it. It attacks the blue in my undereye area like no other. I will apply this product first, and then layer on top with whatever concealer I have on the go. Two of my favorites to use have been the Smashbox BB undereye concealer, and the Clarins Instant Concealer.

This will be your plan of attack when using this product. Apply your face products (Moisturizer, Primer, Foundation etc.) try not to apply your foundation directly up to the eyes, as it will just create another layer of product, and nobody wants cakey undereyes. After your foundation is blended, apply a small amount of the Clarins Complexion Base with your clean fingers. Tap the product under the eyes, and avoid rubbing the product in. If you try to rub in a concealer, you will be working against yourself, and you will simply remove the product from the skin. If you work in very light layers, you can repeat this process twice. After the complexion base is applied, you can follow with an appropriate undereye concealer. Make sure that you are using a skin tone colored concealer, as the Clarins will be working as a corrector only. Tap the concealer onto the undereyes, and ensure everything is well blended. When you are satisfied with the coverage, set your undereye area with a very finely milled setting powder. This will make sure you avoid any creasing or smudging.

There are three shades of the Complexion Base. Rose, Champagne, and Peach. Rose has a very pink undertone, so wouldn’t do much for this purpose, however the Champagne and the Peach both have very orange undertones. Light to Medium skin tones would love the Champagne, and Medium to Deep skin tones would be better off to use the Peach Shade!

What are your favorite tricks for hiding your dark circles? I once had a pharmacist tell me to get more sleep and eat a steak because my dark circles were probably an Iron deficiency.

2014 Favorites! Makeup Edition!

Well, it’s here. The last day of 2014. As with pretty much every year, there have been some big highs, and some big lows. Alas, here we are, we got through it. Keeping on the high note, I am here to let you know some of the best makeup products that I used this year. It was hard to narrow it down this much, but only the best came through!

Lancôme Waif Eyeshadow: This shadow is amazing. Super basic, and super useful. I use this alone to conceal veins and redness on mornings that I need to be super quick. It also makes the perfect transition color, or exaggerated crease color. It has a matte finish, and I have completely finished one already. Lancôme just sent me another one along with a few other products, so I am happy to have one back in my collection!

Clarins True Radiance Foundation: This was a newer favorite for this year. This foundation gives great coverage, and a wonderful finish. It makes my dry skin glow, and really seems to neutralize redness. I use the shade 109, and couldn’t be happier with it.

Lise Watier Rouge Fondant Supreme Lipsticks: These lipsticks are so hydrating and creamy. I love that the shade names are all names of Iconic women. (I would love them to make one named after me … Hint Hint Lise Watier, I like fuchsia and pinky nude colors) They wear beautifully, and never leave me with that dreaded ring around my mouth.

Elizabeth Arden Brow Pencil: This brow pencil blew my mind. I finished the whole thing, and continue to use the spooly on the end of this product with other brow products. It blends the product perfectly, but doesn’t remove too much of it. It is by far my favorite brow product I have used this year, and if you use the Anastasia Brow Wiz, you should give this pencil a try. It’s a little cheaper, and I much prefer it.

Lancôme Hypnose Mascara: This has been a favorite of mine for years. This mascara gives me volume, length, with no clumps, and it doesn’t flake on me. I also fell in love with Lancôme Grandiose this year, but after much debate, I’ve decided to stick with the original Hypnose as my must have.

Maybelline Color Elixirs: These lip elixirs give you the most beautiful looking lips. And they make your lips feel like pillows. My favorite color from the line is Caramel Infused. These are not sticky, and they don’t gather near the edges of your lips. (Something my boss likes to call grossness) They wear so nicely, and everytime I wear these, people ask me what I am wearing.

Essence Silky Touch Blushes: I am just as shocked as you that these blushes made favorite status. I have purchased so many blushes in 2014, and I continue to reach for my Essence. These are so inexpensive, but the pigment is amazing, and they last all day on my skin. My favorite one right now is shade 40, which is now discontinued, so the anxiety about hitting pan on that is starting to creep up. These blushes made me put my hourglass blush palette away. And my Dior Glow. That is a serious accomplishment …

Benefit Porefessional: I used so much of this product this year. This product is awesome at blurring out fine lines and pores. Near the end of 2014, Smashbox launched a pore minimizing primer that I love as well, but I have to give the favorite status to Benefit. I introduced this to my mother this year, and she is now obsessed with it too. My favorite way to use this product is on days that I don’t want to wear any other face makeup. It evens out my skin texture and I swear it calms down my redness too.

Dior Creme De Rose Lip Balm: First things first. Is this getting discontinued or not!? I think this is one of the worst products that “cries wolf.” It seems like people are always losing their mind that this is discontinued, but I continue to find it. And stores tell me it’s still a core product and not phased out. Either way – this lip balm is amazing. I love the scent of it, and no other lip balm has ever made my lips this soft. I wish they could make it in a stick form, as I hate sticking my finger into a lip balm jar, but this loves on my nightstand, and I’ll continue to repurchase!

Lise Watier Aurora Highlighting Powder: This is a limited edition product from the Winter 2014 collection, and let me tell you, if you get your hands on this, you are a lucky son of a gun. This is an absolute favorite for me, but if you can’t get your hands on it, opt for the Highlight 101 from Laura Mercier.

Well, that concludes the favorites of 2014. Now it’s time to get a pretty dress on, pour some champagne, and ring in the new year with those you love.

Here’s to an amazing 2015, with lots of new launches, and minimal discontinued products!

2014 Favorites! Skincare Edition!

Hi everyone! Hope you all had an amazing holiday and are looking forward to the New Year! I have written out three separate posts for my 2014 Favorites. Skincare, Face and Body, and Makeup. I am going to start with the skincare, as I have found some really good products this year, that I will continue to use into 2015.

Clarins Double Serum: Technically I started using this product in 2013, but I have continued using it throughout this year, and it still remains a top shelf product in my opinion. My skin loves the texture of this, and I always feel hydrated when I am using it. I go through this product quickly, as I use about 4 pumps morning and night, and take it right down to my chest. The radiance this gives my skin can’t be beat!

Vichy Mineral Balm: I recently did a full review on this product. This is something that is a fairly specific product. If you are someone who works in cold conditions, or runs in the wintertime, or just have super dry skin like me, you should definitely try this. It is the perfect example of a complete barrier cream. And, I was able to put makeup on top of it, which was a nice surprise!

Shiseido Wrinkle Resist 24 Eye Cream: This eye cream is so much better than anything I have ever used. Seriously, I have not gone through an eye cream as fast as I do with this one. My eyes are a problem zone for me, but if I am not seeing or feeling results, I will neglect a product. I have not missed a morning or a night application of this since I opened the jar, and I have anxiety for when it finishes. It is so hydrating, and smoothes the lines around my eyes.

Bioderma: I’ll be quick with this, as I talk about this all the time. It’s a super gentle cleansing water that removes makeup from your face and eyes. No fragrance, alcohol, parabens…. I could go on and on. This has been a favorite for years, but I just had to include it.

Clarins Foaming Cleanser: These cleansers are amazing. I have tried both the Normal/Combination formula, and the Dry/Sensitive formula, and love both. You need the smallest amount, and they work very well with my Clarisonic. These leave your skin feeling clean, but not stripped of all it’s moisture. I have repurchased these over and over all year.

La Roche Posay Nutritic Intense Riche: This was another cream that worked really well for me this year. It’s a super rich cream that still manages to feel light on the skin. It can be applied under makeup, and is a great option for sensitive skin. At $39.00CAD, this is a fairly affordable option, and truly kept my skin hydrated while I was using it. It really locked the moisture into my skin, but never felt greasy, or clogged any pores.

Those are six of my skincare favorites for 2014! I had so many products that I loved, but these were the six that really stood out to me!

What were your favorite skincare products of 2014?

Thanks for reading!

You can’t win em’ all: Three products that didn’t work out for me!

Perfect timing to follow two empties posts. I love to finish my beauty products. That last pump, or that last swipe of product gives me a feeling like I could conquer the world. And it helps with the guilt that I’m sure all beauty bloggers have. When you have a ridiculous amount of product that one person would never need in a lifetime, and you actually finish a product, it makes you feel like you’re making a dent in your collection.

Alas, sometimes I start to use a product, and I just know that it is not for me. They have no chance to get to an empties post, because the thought of having to finish them, makes me want to pull my hair out. These are the products that I will take with me to work, and try to find them a home. These three products did not work for me at all, and I’m going to tell you all about why.

Clarins Extra Comfort Toning Lotion: I am not wonderful at using a toner. Beauty confession #1. I have yet to find one that works for my skin, and I thought I had the issue solved when I picked this one out. Wrong. This toner felt nice on my skin, but it was so fragrant, that I couldn’t stand to put it on my face any longer. The scent lingered for way too long, and it made my eyes water when I put it on. I am talking super strong scent. Liquid fragrance on a cotton pad strong. I didn’t even get a chance to see if this helped my skin out, because I couldn’t stand to use it for more than 5 days. This is my official cry for help, tell me if you have a favorite toner for dry skin!!

Redken Pillow Proof Express Primer: The reason I picked this up, was because it claims to cut your blow dry time. That’s a legit lie. I actually timed my blow dry with and without this product several times, and every time I applied the product first, it took me longer to blow dry, because my hair felt like an oily mess. I didn’t overuse it, and I’m not someone who is scared of oils in my hair, so I was really disappointed with this. I’m using an Alterna leave in cream now, and I have a back up of my favorite Keratase heat protectant lined up for after that. Hopefully whoever I give this product to likes it more than I did!

Garnier Deconstructed Beach Chic Texture Spray: Another hair product that didn’t work for me. Unlike the Deconstructed Texture Tease spray from this same line, this product did nothing for me. It smells nice, and didn’t make my hair crunchy which was nice, but it just didn’t make my hair wave, or really do anything to it. I work with a girl who recently chopped a lot of her hair off (for Locks of Love!) so I am going to pass this off to her and see if she has better luck.

Did you guys try anything recently that didn’t work for you? Let me know about it!

Current Top 5 Red Lipsticks!

Tis the season to wear red lips … Fa la la la la la la la la …

I have been really loving red lips lately. I have gone through and picked 5 of my current favorites. Before I start anything, I have to give an honourable mention to my beloved Baby Lips in Cherry Me. It’s a red that has a lot of pink in it, and is a great starter red for someone who might be intimidated by a stronger color

Starting from left to right…

Lancôme Rouge in Love 182 N : This is a beautiful red that makes your teeth look like pearly whites. These lipsticks have a long lasting finish, without being overly drying. No need for a lipliner with this one either, the color is very highly pigmented, and this works well by itself.

Lise Watier Rouge Fondant Supreme in Marilyn: This lipstick line from Lise Watier is rocking my world right now. Marilyn is a beautiful red, that feels like a fluffy pillow on your lips. A lipliner is a nice partner with this formula, as it is super hydrating and can have the tendency to travel outside of the lip line a little bit. But overall these are amazing, and if you are just getting into reds, this is a great choice.

Clarins Joli Rouge in Poppy Red: I know that this lipstick is getting discontinued in the near future, but if you want a beautiful easy to wear red lipstick, get your hands on this before it’s gone. This is the most sheer of the bunch, and it pulls a lot of pink color, so it’s not as alarming as a full on red. The texture of these lipsticks are great, and while the wear time isn’t overly impressive, this one wears off evenly, and doesn’t give you that dreaded ring around the mouth.

Covergirl Lip Perfection in Seduce: This lipstick is no joke. It’s a one swipe, no muss no fuss red. It definitely stains the lips, and lasts probably the longest of all five of these lipsticks. The formula is perfect, not too hydrating, but not too drying. And this deep shade of red screams seduction. It’s name is dead on! Everytime I put this lipstick on, I feel like a totally different person.

Rimmel Moisture Renew lipstick in Diva Red: This might be the deepest shade of red that I’ve chosen. And it is definitely the most hydrating. I cannot say enough about the texture of these lipsticks, they are so creamy and so hydrating, even the driest lips can wear them. I like to use a clear lipliner with this, because I don’t want to make the color any deeper, but again due to the hydrating formula, they can travel a little bit …

That’s it guys, those are my favorite five reds at the moment! Special shoutout to the Hourglass lipstick in Icon … That one is also one of my favorites!

What red lipstick is your favorite?

Haul Post! Clarins, Lise Watier and Benefit!

As the holidays creep up on us, most of us will be increasing our shopping habits. Both for other people, and ourselves. I am no different! October through January are definitely the most expensive months for me. I picked some goodies up lately, and wanted to show you guys what I got!

Clarins Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base: I am really hoping that this product will replace my Benefit Stay don’t Stray. Don’t get me wrong, I love that product, but there is just so much wasted product with the doe foot applicator. I really prefer squeeze tubes. The texture of this seemed to be quite similar, and I am excited to try it!

Lise Watier Smokey Kohl Velours Eyeliner (Noir Velours) : Lise Watier knows eyeliner. I put these liners up with other brands that are much more expensive. (And any reason to support a Canadian company works for me!) this liner is crazy black, and I’m sure I will get a lot of use out of it this season. (Does anybody else wear a lot more eyeliner in the winter?)

Lise Watier Rouge Fondant Supreme in Sandra: Okay, I LOVE these lipsticks. I already own Jennifer and Liz, and Sandra is the new chick on the block! These lipsticks are so creamy, so comfortable, and have amazing pigment. There are also five more of these launching soon (blog post coming on that!) and I couldn’t be more excited … I wish they would make a Sara shade …

Lise Watier Mineral Compact Powder in Neutre: This was recommended to me by a friend, as she knew I was on the hunt for a new powder foundation. I am dying to try the Laura Mercier one, but for some reason I cat get myself to buy it! So, we will see how this goes. I have used this a few times, and so fat I am happy. It does give me a bit of that tight face feeling, which I often get on my super dry skin, when I use powders. The cool thing with this powder is it comes with a 50 pack of blotting papers that is under the compact. Not that I need oil blotting papers, but I still appreciate the extra product!

Clarins True Radiance Foundation in 109 Wheat: Clarins does foundations really well. I loved Everlasting, Skin Illusion, and their BB cream. So when they launched this foundation that promises moisture, and a dewy finish, I knew I had to try it. I wish I would have picked the 107 shade, as I haven’t self tanned in forever, and this might be a little dark for me right now. Either way, this will be put to good use! Stay tuned for a review on that!

Benefit Sweet Tintations Set: This is one of many adorable Benefit sets that released for the holidays. And really the only one that made sense for me. I probably own more Benefit than any other line, so the kits of full sized products, and the blush palette didn’t really appeal to me, as I already have most of it. This kit caught my eye however, because I have finished a Lolli Balm already. Yup, you heard that right. I finished a lip product. This is rare for me. I love LolliBalm, and I can’t wait to try Benebalm. Plus, you get the two matching mini tints. (Which I have full size of, so these will probably go into a future giveaway!) This kit was $30.00 CAD which is a steal, considering that one balm is usually $22.00!

This is just the start of my holiday shopping!

What have you guys bought lately?

September Favorites!

It’s officially October. We have been having some really beautiful fall weather, and it’s finally Football season. I have no complaints, so let’s get into my September favorites, and enjoy this lovely time of year before the dreaded winter comes.

Kiehl’s Crème de Corps Body Lotion: Almira brought this back for me during one of her recent trips, and I absolutely love this lotion. It feels so smooth and silky, and you can get dressed right after application. It is not sticky or greasy at all, and I love the soft scent that it has. Of course, this is a product that I can’t buy where I live, so I have some research to do, because mine is almost gone! She also got me a sample of the hand salve and I am absolutely loving that as well …

Clarins Double Serum: This is an older favorite of mine, but it got pushed to the back burner while I tried other things, and I recently went back to it. I love rediscovering products, and my skin is very happy that I went back to this. If you are looking for an anti aging serum, or something to hydrate your skin and give you a super radiant looking complexion, give this a try!

Michael Kors Watch: This was a birthday gift from a few friends of mine this year, and I have been wearing this almost every day this month. I love black and gold together, and the spike detail through the middle of the band is just what I was looking for in a watch.

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Foundation: This foundation works very well for me, and I have to say, it’s one of my favorite foundations from the drugstore. Again, I cannot buy this where I live (or in Canada at all) so that is super frustrating. But – everytime I visit the States, I will be sure to pick this baby up. I have a review coming very soon on this foundation so stay tuned for that!

Essence Longlasting Lipsticks: I have a full review on these here … these lipsticks are simply amazing. And not even in a “they were only $2.99” kind of way. I can compare these to some of my high end lipsticks, and in some cases, they even perform better. They are not drying on the lip, have such saturated color, and the packaging is awesome. Next time you are at the drugstore, have a look for these little gems.

Clarins Ombre Matte Shadow in Nude Pink: This eye shadow is super boring, and right up my alley. I have been using this all over my lid this month, and I absolutely love it. I also have a full review with swatches of this eyeshadow line here.

And the random favorite in the background. The Chicago Bears. Not only are Sabah and I beauty junkies, we are also football fanatics. Both previous Ravens fans, we decided to branch out this year to pick different teams, after all of the Ray Rice drama. I originally picked the Vikings (as I look wicked in purple) and then Adrian Peterson took care of that. I decided to go back to my roots, and cheer for the Bears. They have always been my fathers favorite team, and Brandon Marshall made it easy to choose the team!

Are any of you guys Football fans? Who is your favorite team?

Clarins Ombré Matte Shadows!

Something about Fall … As soon as I feel that crispness in the air, I run to get my boots, scarves, and my eyeshadows. I enjoy a pumpkin spice or chai latte, and I contemplate cutting my bangs. To make things easier for me this year, Clarins have launched an eyeshadow collection with my name all over it. 6 neutral shades, 5 matte and 1 shimmer. They also launched a new eye primer, which I have been testing for awhile now. The eyeshadows retail for $24.00 CAD, and the shades are as follows:

01 Nude Beige
02 Nude Pink
03 Taupe
04 Rosewood
05 Sparkle Grey
06 Earth

As you can see in the photo, shades 01 and 02 are so boring, but so necessary. The primer is also swatched at the very top. (Isn’t it dark!?) Depending on your skin tone, either one would make a great base shadow. I prefer the 02 shade because it is more brightening on my eyes, and I find the primer is a little dark for my skin tone. (It works beautifully, I just wish it came in another shade option!) All of these shades are matte with the exception of 05 Sparkle Grey. I’ve been wearing these lately with and without an eye primer, and I have had zero problems with creasing. They are the definition of “get out the door fast” shadows, and more often than not, I apply these with my fingers. They blend together with hardly any effort, and I will be reaching for these for the whole fall season. If you guys get a chance to check out the ladylike collection from Clarins, check out the model. She is stunning, and has the perfect fall sweater on!

Do you prefer matte or shimmer shadows?

5 things you should try this summer!

Can we all just take a minute and say together, that it’s halfway through July? I honestly don’t feel like Summer has really started yet! I have only had one beach day, which consisted of Sabah and I huddled under a blanket for a few hours before both admitting we were ready to leave because it was too cold. I still haven’t found my perfect Summer hat, and haven’t really missed not having one, since the sunny days have been few and far between. None the less, I have been using some summer essentials, and I have five that you guys should really try out!

1.) Biotherm After Sun Pearly Cream: This after sun product gives your skin an amazing glow, and it is great for those days when you go straight from the beach, to a party or BBQ. The sparkle it leaves behind is subtle, and not chunky in the least, and it feels super refreshing if you happened to get too much sun!

2.) Biotherm SPF 50 for face: This sunscreen has become a Summer staple for me. It makes my skin look amazing underneath of my foundation, and it doesn’t break me out. It combines anti-aging properties, along with the sun protection, so it takes out an extra step from your skincare regime.

3.) Clarins Sunscreen Stick for Sensitive Skin: This little stick of heaven is wonderful for my purse. If I catch myself on a patio in the sun, or I realize I’ve forgotten the tops of my ears (Or my boyfriends!) I always have this on me. I also have a pretty nasty scar on my arm (I cut it with a butcher knife … story for another day) and this stick is perfect to swipe over it, to avoid sun damage. I have used this on my face as well, and never had a problem. I will be repurchasing one of these for sure!

4.) Clarins tinted UV 40: What an amazing sun protection product this is. First things, it’s mineral screen, which I really prefer on my face, secondly, it is such a fluid texture that it feels like absolutely nothing on your skin. And lastly, it gives AMAZING coverage. Seriously, this replaces my foundation most days. It covers so well, and I was so surprised at how happy I was with it. Also, you can touch up with this through the day, and you never look cakey. This is a must have for you girls who still want some coverage at the beach or pool.

5.) Surprise surprise … Show of hands, who is tired of me talking about this lip balm? Maybelline Baby Lips in Cherry Me. This lip balm has an SPF of 20, and gives me an amazing juicy pinkish red color on my lips. A pair of big sunglasses and this lip color has been my absolute go to this year. I’ve mentioned before that I have been seeing these on clearout in stores, so I would stock up if you see them. I am not a huge fan of the other shades, but Cherry Me has found a very special place in my heart, and I haven’t had the slightest lip burn since I started using this. Seriously, is there anything worse than a lip burn?

What are your must have summer items? I am honestly thinking that the Clarins UV 40 might become a year round staple …

Why I will never stop using my Clarisonic …

This post has been weeks in the making. And it all started about a month ago. Here’s the back story. I am an avid Clarisonic user. I was the first one in my whole group of girlfriends that took the plunge, and after seeing the results on my skin, I am confident to say 98% of my friends now own one. When I first started using the Clarisonic, I did experience some of the dreaded purging stage. It was quick, only about a week, but it happened. After I got myself through that, my skin was glowing. I mean not one blemish. I finally found the secret to keeping my skin clear. I’ve used it with so many cleansers, but mostly my beloved Clarins Foaming Cleanser. Fast forward to the Spring. I found a Clarins cleanser that spoke to me. It was the Pure Melt Cleansing Gel. (I’ve blogged about this before) It’s a gel texture, that transforms into an oil, and rinses off like a milk. It is an incredible product. It feels so luxurious, and I still have this in my rotation. I had zero reaction to it, however I completely abandoned my Clarisonic. I didn’t use it for about two weeks, and I could see the slow start of this breakout happening. It crept up slowly, and it took me awhile to figure out why my skin was so mad. When I realized the problem, I stopped using the Pure Melt everyday, and went back to the Clarisonic and my foaming cleanser at night, and Bioderma in the morning. These are the dramatic results.

After I previewed this post, the picture is not showing how bad this breakout was. I will have to post on Instagram! Horrifying, but it’s all for the cause …

Hard to post, as I can’t remember the last time my skin looked this bad, but people need to be aware of the magical properties of this product. Clarisonic has no idea I am even writing this, and I bought mine with my own money. I am not someone to overhype a product unless I really believe in it, and if you are someone who has been contemplating the Clarisonic because of the price, or because you don’t think you will use it, stop reading this and get yourself to a store that sells them. Your skin will be forever changed, and like I said, I will never ever be without mine again.

Do you guys have success stories with your Clarisonic? I know Almira has a really good one too … maybe she will share it with you guys!
