Review: CoverGirl Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation!

Recently, I had a very bad reaction to a new cleansing balm that I tried. It was a doozy, and it made me really question what I am going to do with my skin. I went to my beauty stash, pulled almost all of the skincare that I had, and gave it all to Sabah. Creams, serums, exfoliants … Everything. I stopped using almost every product I had, and went back to Cetaphil cleanser and CeraVe moisturizer. That along with blasts and blasts of Avene Thermal Water, and my skin is finally getting back to normal. The reason I am telling you guys this, is because the way I have my unopened products stored is in boxes. Boxes of skincare, boxes of liners, mascaras, blushes, powders, foundations etc. everything has it’s own box. Now that my skincare boxes are almost empty, I realized that I had so many foundations, I could fill two boxes. I needed to start trying new things. This brought me to open the new CoverGirl Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation.

This oil free foundation has been getting really good reviews online, but mostly from people that have oily skin. I worried that this foundation would dry my skin out, but I just had to try it. I love squeeze tubes, the price is right, and it promised me good coverage. I picked the shade 120, which is embarrassingly a little too dark for me right now. I’ve been using this for awhile now, and these are my thoughts!

The texture of this foundation is nice. It’s not too fluid, and not too thick. After applying with a brush, fingers, and a beauty blender, I have decided that I like the application with the beauty blender the best. This foundation doesn’t catch on my dry patches, but I do like to wear a radiance primer underneath, as my skin looks a little dull without it. Lasting power seems to be okay, I am battling a very bad cold right now, so I am always red around the nose at the end of the day. Not the foundations fault, and everywhere else held up super well. I’ve had no issues with clogged pores or breakouts, and this foundation does not oxidize on me throughout the day. My obsession with glowy skin causes me to add a radiance primer, and douse myself in MAC Fix Plus after application. I got this foundation on sale for $6.99CAD, and for the price I would totally recommend it. If you are more of a combo/oily skin, I think you would really like this. Super dry skins, I would stick to my L’oreal True Match Lumi recommendation.

Have you guys tried this yet? I’ve heard only positive things about it, but mostly negative things about the concealer …. Weird hey?

Dark circles are a thing of the past thanks to Clarins Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base!

Dark Circles. Dark circles. Dark Circles. Working in cosmetics, I talk about dark circles probably 45 times a day. This is something that a lot of women struggle with, and I have been noticing some darkness under my own eyes lately. Waking up early to shovel and defrost the ice cube that I call Ruby (my car), has started to cause issues underneath of my eyes.

Luckily, I have a product that truly helps me out. Clarins Radiance Boosting Complexion Base is actually meant to be used as a primer, mixed in with foundation, or wore alone to enhance the complexion, but this little gem packs a serious punch when layered underneath of your undereye concealer.

I have this in the color Champagne, which has a pretty strong orange tone to it. It attacks the blue in my undereye area like no other. I will apply this product first, and then layer on top with whatever concealer I have on the go. Two of my favorites to use have been the Smashbox BB undereye concealer, and the Clarins Instant Concealer.

This will be your plan of attack when using this product. Apply your face products (Moisturizer, Primer, Foundation etc.) try not to apply your foundation directly up to the eyes, as it will just create another layer of product, and nobody wants cakey undereyes. After your foundation is blended, apply a small amount of the Clarins Complexion Base with your clean fingers. Tap the product under the eyes, and avoid rubbing the product in. If you try to rub in a concealer, you will be working against yourself, and you will simply remove the product from the skin. If you work in very light layers, you can repeat this process twice. After the complexion base is applied, you can follow with an appropriate undereye concealer. Make sure that you are using a skin tone colored concealer, as the Clarins will be working as a corrector only. Tap the concealer onto the undereyes, and ensure everything is well blended. When you are satisfied with the coverage, set your undereye area with a very finely milled setting powder. This will make sure you avoid any creasing or smudging.

There are three shades of the Complexion Base. Rose, Champagne, and Peach. Rose has a very pink undertone, so wouldn’t do much for this purpose, however the Champagne and the Peach both have very orange undertones. Light to Medium skin tones would love the Champagne, and Medium to Deep skin tones would be better off to use the Peach Shade!

What are your favorite tricks for hiding your dark circles? I once had a pharmacist tell me to get more sleep and eat a steak because my dark circles were probably an Iron deficiency.

Empties: What you need to know about my trash!

Empties. A constant stream of empty products leaving my vanity. A lot of different emotions come with empties. Happiness, relief, pride, fear, anger, disgust … (We’ve all found that overly expired product in the back of our collection every now and again!)

I’m here to give you all the important details on everything that I have used up lately. Let’s get started!

Glam Glow Thirsty Mud: I loved this product. I am sad that it is completely gone, because it is pricey. I loved the smell of it, and I frequently used this as a night cream. I have some other masks I have to try out, and I honestly don’t think I will repurchase this again, even though I loved it. It is just expensive! I have seen that they make the smaller size of it now, so I will definitely buy one of those sometime soon!

Stila Stay all Day Primer Balm: This product was … Underwhelming. I feel like the texture was too creamy for what it was. Honestly, the reason I actually finished this was because there was so much wasted product. Everytime you dipped your sponge in to get some product, you were left with a massive gob on the sponge that ended up being thrown in the trash. The product worked well enough, but the Cover Girl version was so similar there is no way I would tell someone to buy this. Apparently Mally has a wonderful product like this that I would love to try.

Beauty Blender Solid Cleanser: BETTER than any other brush cleanser I have ever used. Period. For sponges, for brushes, whatever you have, this is the best stuff to clean them with. I have gone through several of these, and am currently having a small heart attack because I have misplaced my brand new one. I will repurchase this over and over!

Korres 24 Hour Wild Rose Moisturizing and Brightening Cream: Another underwhelming product. The jar is gone, it was fine. I won’t repurchase. I saw no difference in my skin while I was using this, and my dry flakes were there every morning when I woke up. Pass!

Avene Trixera Emollient Cream: I only got about halfway through this before it expired. I didn’t even try to push the expiry, because this cream did nothing for me. I never expect to be changed because of a body lotion, but this one was just boring. I wasn’t excited to use it, and I was thankful when it expired.

Clarins Wonder Length Mascara: Clarins has discontinued this mascara, and I think I know why. Although I love the very small wand (very Maybelline Lash Discovery-esque) the formula did nothing for me. It pretty much made my natural lashes darker, and flaked throughout the day. Discontinued and I have no hard feelings about it.

Lise Watier Feline HD Eyeliner: By far, my favorite liquid eyeliner that I have ever tried. The longer style felt tip makes application an absolute breeze, this is a super black liner, and it never moves around on me. I cannot complain, and I am happy to say that LW has finally launched a brown version!

Caviar CC Cream 10 in 1: This hair product was okay, but I was really looking forward to finishing it so I could get back to my Kerestase. My hair has been so tangly lately, that I am really looking for a product that will help. (Suggestions below please!) For the price of the full size, I won’t be repurchasing this!

Nivea a hint of Olive Oil and Lemon: By far my favorite lip balm from Nivea. This is the only one that ever seemed to heal my lips. I dug into this with a qtip and it is truly empty. This is not available in Halifax, so next time I travel to the States, I will bring back multiple tubes of this!

Marc Anthony Repairing Macadamia Oil Treatment: I am so glad this was a small packet and not a full size product. This did absolutely nothing for me. My hair was still so rough feeling and tangled after using it. I have used cheap conditioners that have made my hair feel better than this. Definite pass!

Avene Thermal Spring Water: I love this product. This brand in particular is my favorite. I find others leave a mineral like cast on my skin – and I hate it! The Avene water feels so refreshing and crisp, and leaves my skin feeling hydrated. I repurchase this over and over!

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream: I actually really liked this! I am currently going through moisturizers like crazy. I use them for a week or so, and if they burn my skin, or they give me some sort of a reaction, I move on. I got through this whole tube with no issue. My face was so hydrated and never felt like it was burning or irritated. The only thing I wasn’t crazy about was the smell, but it wasn’t offensive enough to make me not want to use it again. If I have to get rid of another moisturizer, I very well might break down and buy another one of these!

Another round of empties gone. It feels so good to clear this stuff out of here! I have been working on a new vanity area for my products, so I will keep you guys updated on Instagram about that!

Thanks so much for reading!

January Favorites!

Can anyone even believe the first month of 2015 is over yet? I have yet to really think of any resolutions, but I did just get a FitBit, so maybe I will jump on the fitness train. (Ok- I couldn’t even get through typing that without laughing!) I loathe exercise. I also love food. Food and I have a relationship that is so strong, I can’t see us ever parting ways. We always agree with eachother, and we love in harmony.

Luckily for me, my beauty favorites of the month don’t have nearly as many calories as some of my favorite foods – so let’s jump into my most reached for products for this month!

YSL Black Opium: This fragrance has had my heart all month. I loved it as soon as I smelled it, and it’s a rare fragrance that Almira, Sabah and I all like. It is a warmer, deeper scent, but isn’t overly musky or offensive. You have to smell this next time you’re out!

Number 7 Microdermabrasion: I just reviewed this product a few days ago on the blog. I haven’t reached for it for awhile, and boy am I glad it’s back in my life. This product gives you such an amazing exfoliation. Smooth skin and less irritation than a lot of other scrubs that I have used! I highly recommend this.

Sonia Kashuk Eyes on Neutral Palette: I have used this every single day since I got it. No joke. And I am falling more and more in love. These shadows blend so beautifully, and they are all matte. I will be buying a back up of this, hopefully if I can find one at Target before they shut down.

Cover Girl Ready Set Gorgeous! Foundation: I was surprised with this foundation. I have a full review coming this week, so stay tuned for that. The gist of it is, it doesn’t settle on my dry patches, and the coverage is really nice. I’m in the shade 120, which works for me, but I could have actually gone a shade lighter. (I’m translucent not very tanned in the winter.

Benefit Puff Off!: This product really smooths out my undereye area. The adorable packaging is not only eye catching, but practical. Keep this sucker in the fridge, and use it in the morning! It can be layered underneath another eye cream, and will iron out those undereye bags for you before (or after) you apply your makeup!

Garnier Damage Eraser Hair Mask: This was recommended by Tiffany D on YouTube, and I am really happy with it. It is so nourishing, but rinses clean and doesn’t leave my fine hair looking or feeling heavy. I’ve actually used this as my regular conditioner for awhile and I love it. I purchased the shampoo from the same line, but haven’t tried it out yet. Here’s hoping I love it!

Aveeno Ezcema Care Hand Cream: This has been a favorite for a few months! I finished a tube completely, and promptly repurchased. It’s the only hand cream that doesn’t irritate me when my Ezcema is flaring up on my hands. It makes me think that Oatmeal must be a truly magical ingredient.

What were your favorites this month!?

Empties Post! New Year, New Empties!

What better to do on a Monday morning than clean out your bucket of empties? I had a few makeup products in here which was exciting, as of many of you with ridiculous makeup collections know, it can be hard to get to the bottom of makeup products!
I did a separate blog for my empty mascaras. Truth be told, a few of them were definitely not empty, they were just so bad that they had to be retired early. Make sure you check out that blog post if you are interested in mascaras!

Let’s jump into the empties! (Disclaimer: I went a little crop crazy with the first picture, so excuse that!)

Biotherm Oil Therapy Baume Corps: I love this body lotion. This is probably my third or fourth bottle. If you read my blog regularly, you’ll know that I can never wear this again, because the smell of it sends Sabah into an absolute emotional downward spiral. We haven’t quite figured out why yet, but I would be a pretty bad friend if I wore it anyway! I would recommend this lotion though, it’s great for dry legs!

L’oreal Elnett Hairspray (Unfragranced): Show of hands, who is tired of hearing me rave about Elnett!? Just for any new readers, this is what you need to know. This hairspray is amazing, you can use as much as you want, and can easily brush it through. Your hair never gets crunchy, and it holds my style really well. Always ALWAYS get the unfragranced version, because the other ones smell like the your grandmothers basement!

Benefit Foamingly Clean Facial Cleanser: I love this product. It smells great, plays well with my Clarisonic, and never makes my skin feel dried out. Benefit really did well with their cleanser and also their exfoliant. And packaging inspired by sea glass? Sign me up. Love this!

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Mineral Balm: I have a seperate review for this product here. This product worked really well for me, and has been the only thing that really has kept my upper lip area from flaking. I haven’t repurchased, because I am trying out some new products, but this will be something I will use again. It’s a perfect barrier cream!

ROC Anti Fatigue Nourishing Cream: This was a cream I had thrown in my travel bag and it didn’t break me out, but it also didn’t wow me. I actually finished the tube moisturizing my legs after my boyfriend came home from a work trip a day early to surprise me, and a very quick, very aggressive leg shaving had to happen in a flash. Seriously, why do men think early surprises are a good idea? After two weeks, I had neglected shaving my legs, had a full face mask on, and was wearing a fleece onesie. I was horrified, but I pulled it together. Either way, even though this moisturizer was fine, I wouldn’t repurchase it.

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Foundation: I can’t say enough good things about this foundation. And it’s the first foundation I have actually finished in a long time. I got this in September, and have used it almost exclusively since then. It leaves a very natural finish, feels super light on the skin, and didn’t break me out at all. This isn’t available in Canada, so I won’t be repurchasing, but my next trip to the States, I will be buying this again!

No Dark Shadows: This concealer worked really well for me. It didn’t crease when set with a powder, and it was nice to use for highlighting as well. I went through it super fast, and when I used it one morning and I heard that click that tells you the product is gone, I was shocked. I am a bit of a concealer junkie, so I have already moved on to other things, but if you are looking for a new brightening concealer, give this one a try. It’s inexpensive, but harder to find. I got mine at Shoppers. The only thing I would change is the packaging. I’m not a fan of the twist up brush packaging.

Cover Girl Smoochies in Text Me 220: This product surprised me, I really liked it. The color was great, and it wore really comfortably on the lips. None of the other colors in the range really interest me, but if they ever launched some new shades, I would repurchase for sure!

Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Eyebrow Pencil in Brownette: This is the best brow pencil I have ever used in my life. And through the cosmetic grapevine, I have heard so many people switching from their HG Anastasia Brow Wiz to this pencil. It’s a little less expensive, and in my opinion, much nicer. Everything from the product, to the packaging, to the spooly brush. I’ve never lost a cap on either side of the product, (which always happens to me with brow pencils for some reason) and I have actually kept this empty product, just to use the spooly that’s on it. It blends your brows out perfectly, without removing too much product. I have already repurchased another one, which I am so glad for, because I’ve been trying lots of other brow pencils, and they just aren’t the same!

Cliniderm Gentle Cleanser: This was the absolute most boring product I have ever used. More boring than Philosophy Purity. But that being said, I still liked it. It did the job, didn’t have any fragrance, didn’t irritate my eyes, or sting my skin. If you have sensitive skin and want a very basic cleanser, I would definitely try this out!

Caress Passionate Spell Body Wash: I loved this product! It was such a warm spicy scent, unlike any body wash I have ever used. Of course I can’t buy this where I live, so I’ll have to do without until I can find it. It was the perfect winter body wash… I wish they made a more creamy version for dry skin. It was like having a bath or shower right next to a crackling fire.

Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Hair Mask: This changed my hair. Seriously, over all higher end hair masks I have ever used, this made my hair smoother and softer. Even my boyfriend would mention how soft my hair was after using this. I got two of these for $6.00 USD and I am so sad that mine is gone. I’ve had people tell me I can find this in Canada at London Drugs, so I will have to get my sisters in Calgary on the hunt. Next time you hit the drugstore and see this, pick it up and try it!

Once again left with an empty empties bin. I can’t wait to get into some new products and start filling it up again!

Have an awesome Monday beauties!

Review: Smashbox Photo Filter Creamy Powder Foundation!

Hello lovelies! I have for you today, a review that makes me super happy. I feel ready to say, that I have found a compact powder foundation, that works wonders for me. If you are looking for a quick, medium to full coverage powder foundation, that doesn’t make your skin feel like it’s being sucked into a vacuum cleaner, than keep reading. (Does anybody else get crazy tight face from most powders?)

Now, let’s get into the claims for the product. This is what the company says about the product on their website.

“An eight-hour wear, powder foundation formulated with Light Filter technology and long-lasting photoset polymers that acts as a photo filter for your face.”

“Smashbox Photo Filter Creamy Powder Foundation provides two filter effects in one portable compact. It features a double-sided sponge, and it lets you create a buildable and customizable, sheer or full finish. The Light Filter Technology acts as a photo filter to leave skin looking flawless: transparent particles diffuse light in various directions, blurring imperfections while still keeping the subject in focus. Non-drying, non-caking, and non-settling, the particles in this oil-free foundation are translucent so that the pigment’s true color always comes through.”

Upon first swipe, I immediately said to Sabah, “I hope this doesn’t give me tight face!” The coverage was serious. The first day I tried this was New Years morning, so it’s safe to say that my skin was by no means in great shape. Sabah and I were rushing to the theatre and I didn’t even make myself put a moisturizer on. I won’t lie, with no moisturizer on, I did start to feel my skin tighten up a bit after application. Alas, it was my own fault. I know better than to not moisturize my skin every day and night religiously.

I wore this product alone, no concealer, no blush… Nothing. And let me tell you, my skin looked awesome. It didn’t overly cling to my dry patches, and when I went to wash my face that night, I still had coverage. I agree with the eight hour wear time, and I was also surprised to see that the double sided sponge actually made a difference. When you see the sponge for the first time, you can see that one side is slightly more fluffy, providing more sheer coverage, and the flip side is more of a traditional sponge that will provide more coverage. That being said, as soon as both sides of the sponge have powder on them, it gets hard to tell which side is which. And honestly, I’ll use the sponge for about a month, and then I’ll throw it out and replace it with a new one anyway.

After using this with a moisturizer underneath, and realizing that it completely took away my sensation of dryness, I have given this my stamp of approval.

My only word of caution for you, is the colors seem to swatch much darker on the skin than they look in the pan. Originally when I saw the full color line, I picked up shade 4 for myself. I have a talent for being able to judge what color I need for a foundation without actually having to apply it. But when I tried shade 4 it looked so much darker on my skin. I ended up with shade 2, and that’s a great match for my un-self tanned skin. I always find that Smashbox foundations run darker, so I guess that is no surprise.

This product retails for $48.00 CAD and in my opinion, is totally worth it. Like I said, get yourself to a counter if you can, and match yourself, rather than guessing your shade online.

Will you be trying this new foundation?

Sara’s November Favorites!

It’s December. How did that even happen? I had to take a break from decorating the Christmas tree, to let you guys know everything that I loved this past month!

First of all, the background. Plaid. Some of you might be surprised to know that I am a total country girl. I love plaid, and I usually drink everything out of a mason jar. Anything that has a black and red plaid pattern on, I need to have it. Anyway, the point of the story is, if anyone finds a massive blanket scarf in this pattern, please let me know. And I mean big. Like Lenny Kravitz big. Check out this scarf!!

Seriously, a scarf that big sounds perfect to me. I think I’ll need to start looking into couch blankets!

Back to the favorites. The first one is the Essence Silky Touch blushes. I have several shades, and I love all of them. They blend super easily, and they last throughout the day on my skin. The shade pictured here is 20 Adorable. They are so affordable, which just makes it easy to have the whole collection!

Maybelline Lash Discovery: This mascara isn’t available to purchase in Halifax, but the next time I go to the states, I will be bringing back several tubes of this. I started using it only on my lower lashes, but quickly started using it on my top and bottom lashes, and I absolutely love it. It doesn’t flake, and it really defines my lashes. It’s a different look, as it doesn’t give as much volume as my beloved Lancôme mascara, but I am really enjoying it!

Shiseido Wrinkle Resist 24 Eye Cream: This eye cream is magical. I’ve raved about this before, but I recently finished a Clinique eye cream (That did absolutely nothing) and a few days after switching to this, I’ve noticed my eye area much more smoothed and hydrated. You can apply this day and night, and when applied at night, you can wake up hours later, and still feel the hydration around your eyes. It is absolutely fantastic.

Garnier Texture Tease: This texture spray is a wonderful product for the price. It smells amazing, and gives awesome texture. My only gripe is that it tangles my hair pretty badly. I started using this early November and my can is almost gone!

Victor and Rolf Flowerbomb: This fragrance is amazing. The funny thing is, everyone always puts it in the same sentence as Angel. I don’t know if I’ve ever broadcasted my distaste for Angel on this blog, but I just can’t handle it. It’s way too strong, and just gives me such a headache I can’t deal. Flowerbomb however, is beautiful. I literally press the rollerball to my wrist, and that’s enough for me. The scent lasts for hours, and my boyfriend always compliments me when I have this on. (Which is huge – he’s not exactly one to notice things like that!)

Clarins Fix Makeup: I opened a new bottle of this for Halloween, to spray myself down after painting myself yellow to be Marge Simpson. I continued to use it, and I am always surprised at the difference it makes in my makeup wear time. It’s beautiful! And also really helps for those days that your skin looks a little overdone. It subtly gets rid of the powder look, and pulls everything together.

Elizabeth Arden Brow Pencil in Brownette: This brow pencil was a favorite of mine awhile ago, and when I started using another pencil, this got put to the side. I put it in my travel bag, and I pulled it out awhile ago to use and remembered why I loved it in the first place. The spooly brush is perfect, and the formula is amazing for brows. Highly recommend this!

Smashbox Master Class III Palette: I bought this in the Summer, used it a few times and then forgot about it. I saw it in a You Tube video recently, and got inspired to pull it out and use it again. The contour shade is amazing, and the eyeshadows are just like icing sugar. If you have been thinking about this, but we’re on the fence, you definitely should take the jump and get it. I’ve had zero regrets.

Those are my favorites for November! What have you guys been loving?

Haul Post: Lush!

So the other day, Sabah took me makeup shopping. Just another day really, until we went to leave, and she said she wanted to go to Lush. Now, I never shop at Lush. Something about the overwhelming smell of the store usually turns me off. But after watching a recent Lush haul on YouTube, I was intrigued by their bath products. These are what I picked out, and if you are a Lush junkie, consider this my official cry for help! Leave me your favorite Lush products below so I can pick them up next time! I will leave the descriptions of each product from the Lush website below!

Rose Jam: (Pink product) “The Bubbleroon is our newest style of Bubble Bar inspired by delicious, handmade macaroons. Rose Jam is based on a decadent traditional Turkish recipe for rose jam that our Turkish rose absolute supplier shares with us every year, and is made with our sophisticated new rose perfume. Rose oil and rose absolute not only smell amazing but they are also fantastic for soothing dry, sensitive skin. The rosy fragrance paired with the coconut oil “icing” that sticks the two halves of this Bubbleroon together make for a majorly moisturizing, softening and luxurious soak.”

Wow – this little beauty smells amazing. What made me pick this up, was the promise for hydration. Anything that can help my snake-like legs in the colder months, I will take.

Cinders – (Yellow and Orange) “Heat up your holidays with this sweet and spicy bomb inspired by fireside gatherings with family and friends. We combine crackling vegan candies with stimulating cinnamon leaf oil to recreate the warmth of the hearth. This spicy soak also has hydrating almond oil to keep your skin super soft and smooth – and with a bathtub fizzer so inviting, you can go ahead and skip the open fire and curl up with Cinders instead.”

Something about the sound of crackling made me want this. It sounds so holiday appropriate, and I can’t wait to use this on a cold stormy night. He was also only about $5.00, so I might stock up on these if I like the effect!

Butterfly Kit – “Transform your skin with this hydrating super-duo. The decadent, rose-scented Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner and the creamy, fruity Sultana of Soap are both packed with some of our most skin-softening ingredients. Start with Sultana to wash away troubles (and dirt) with its rich, creamy later, and then spread on a generous amount of Ro’s Argan. Rinse away and leave the shower feeling irresistibly soft and smooth. It’s two of our most popular products together in one gorgeous gift.”

I really wanted to try the Ro’s Argan, and Sabah pointed out a kit that had a smaller version of it to try first. (The big size is like $30.00!) this kit was $14.95 – and came wrapped so beautifully, it was hard for me to unwrap it!

The Comforter: “When life is getting you down, crumble The Comforter under hot, running water for passionately purple water and creamy, comforting bubbles. This massive slice of vibrant fruitiness gives you the feeling of being enveloped in a warm hug and gently consoled by the friendly fruity aroma of a blackcurrant candy. It was created to bring a real sense of comfort to people, just like a real comforter would. Snuggle in, and stay undercover until you’re ready to face the world once again. Even better, each bar creates two baths of fruity comfort.”

The lady at Lush told me that this would turn my bath into a purple party. For some reason, that’s something I think I would like! I have to bring up an awkward thing that I had to ask while shopping for all of these bath products. What about my lady bits? I didn’t get any products with glitter in them, because I just wasn’t ready. And even with these, I was concerned for my V health. To be honest, I was really concerned about UTI’s or a possible yeast infection (yuck!) but I was assured that these products can be used safely up to four times a week. The sales lady was super open and comforting about it, so my mind is a little bit more at ease about it. (Again, any tips or thoughts, please leave me some comments!)

I also have to say, I love the personalized stickers that show you who made your products. I don’t know about the bath products, but my butterfly kit was put together by Mai and her team! Thanks Mai!

Who do I need to call to get a sticker like that of me???

Ascenta Skin – Liquid Gold for your face!

As someone who is constantly trying new products, and monitoring the state of my skin, I have to put a disclaimer out there, that this will be an absolute rave review, and if you end up running out to get this product, don’t blame me.

Years ago, I worked as a receptionist at a spa, and I met one of my dear friends Cailean. One of the first things I noticed about Cailean (besides her banging body and hilarious humour) was her skin. She always looked like she had a team of people around her giving her the J-lo glow treatment. A few days in, I broke down and had to ask. What do you use on your skin to make yourself glow like that? Her response? “It’s not what I put on, it’s what I put in…”

Right. I had a split second of “this girl is a crazy bag…” But once she told me about the Ascenta products, I quickly got myself a bottle of Ascenta HP. This fish oil has changed my skin, my hair, and my nails. And I kid you not, it makes my mind feel more clear.

Well, of course they have finally launched Ascenta Skin. I have gone through several bottles of the liquid, but am currently taking the gel caps.

This product claims to boost elasticity, increase firmness, restore skin tone, reduce redness and roughness, enhance hydration, and boost UV protection.

It really is interesting to read about so I recommend you guys check out their website at

My experience with this product has been really impressive. My redness is definitely calmer when I am faithfully taking the 4 gel caps daily, and I see big differences in my skin, hair and nails. My hands suffer from pretty bad dermatitis, and it really has helped manage that too. I will say, I prefer the liquid to the gel caps. It has zero fishy taste or smell, and it’s just faster for me than trying to swallow down 4 huge pills.

I love the concept of what you’re putting in your body will show on the outside (I am huge on water for this. If I am not drinking enough water, my face looks like hanging skin on my bones. I dehydrate similar to a piece of beef jerky.) All of the ingredients in this product are really beneficial for your skin, and the science and clinical trials are there to back it up.

One of the most interesting claims this product has, is increasing your skins tolerance to UV damage. Ascenta has done so many clinical trials, and this one really sticks out to me. It’s like drinking sunscreen …

As mentioned, this product is available in liquid form or soft gels. You get 200ml in liquid form, or 120 soft gels retailing for $80.00 CAD.

There is so much information on their website, I highly recommend that you go check it out, and see if this is something you would like to try. I have used several of their products (even the omega feline for Dexter) and I will tell you, I am one of the biggest skeptics when it comes to things like these, but I am completely obsessed with this product, and my skin is thanking me daily.

Live like my beautiful friend Cailean, and remember. It’s not what you put on … It’s what you put in…

Do you guys take any supplements for beauty? I have taken Bioten before to try to thicken my hair, but fish oils have been the only things that have really made a difference …

Product Fails: Living Proof Prime Style Extender Spray!

I got this as a sample, and while I was very excited to get a generous sized sample of a product I had never tried before, let me be frank, and tell you this stuff did not work out for me, even a little bit.

Back story on my hair. I have very fine hair, but I have a ton of it. Hairdressers normally politely complain once they start getting into it, as it just seems never ending. That being said, the size of my ponytail is pathetic. My sister has beautiful thick hair that I can hardly hold in one hand. It’s just not fair. So, with my hair being as fine as it is, I was comforted as this product specifically says it is for fine hair. (They have a cream version which gets amazing reviews, but I guess people found it weighed their hair down.) I wasn’t too worried about weighing it down since it was a spray, and it’s also alcohol free, which is great.

These are the claims from their website:
•Repels dirt & oil to keep hair cleaner, longer
•Creates an optimal base for all styles, especially volumized styles
•Detangles, perfects and smooths strands during styling and throughout the day

The directions on this couldn’t be easier. Spray on damp hair, and style as usual. Easy enough. So I gave it a shake (I shake almost everything before I use it, it must just be habit) I was expecting to hear a liquid-swooshing sound, but it was silent. I opened up the bottle and it’s actually more of a serum texture. I continued with application, but I wished that it was a liquid texture, as I was worried it would weigh my hair down. Sure enough, it did. My curls were just not holding like they normally do, and I had to spray my hair with Elnett before I curled, which is a pet peeve of mine. I can’t stand seeing smoke come off of my curling wand, even if it is just product burning off. At the end of it, my hair looked normal, as I curl it all the time. Normally I can get three to four days out of my curls, with the help of some dry shampoo in between. And sometimes I will refresh a few curls here and there, to make it look like my whole head has been recurled. I wore this product for the day, and went to bed that night waiting to wake up with a style that hung around. I got the complete opposite. My hair was so flat, and straight, that I had to re-curl absolutely every piece of it. I have never had to do that before, my curls have always held up for at least one day. Here I am on day three, and as I am writing this, I cannot wait to get in the shower and scrub my hair. My hair feels gritty, and dry at the ends … totally not something I am used to.

Overall, nothing they promised me happened. I am actually shocked at how much this didn’t work for me. Using my Kerestase Nectar Thermique heat protectant does way more for my hair than this does, and for the price of it ($25 CAD) it is totally not worth it in my opinion.

SO disappointed, I would love to hear from you guys if this product works for you. Maybe it would be great for someone who had shorter hair and wanted to extend some volume … but it did absolutely nothing for me, except for make me re-curl everything the next morning. Maybe I am messing it up somehow … but apply to damp hair and style as usual seems pretty basic … let me know guys!
