January Favorites!

Can anyone even believe the first month of 2015 is over yet? I have yet to really think of any resolutions, but I did just get a FitBit, so maybe I will jump on the fitness train. (Ok- I couldn’t even get through typing that without laughing!) I loathe exercise. I also love food. Food and I have a relationship that is so strong, I can’t see us ever parting ways. We always agree with eachother, and we love in harmony.

Luckily for me, my beauty favorites of the month don’t have nearly as many calories as some of my favorite foods – so let’s jump into my most reached for products for this month!

YSL Black Opium: This fragrance has had my heart all month. I loved it as soon as I smelled it, and it’s a rare fragrance that Almira, Sabah and I all like. It is a warmer, deeper scent, but isn’t overly musky or offensive. You have to smell this next time you’re out!

Number 7 Microdermabrasion: I just reviewed this product a few days ago on the blog. I haven’t reached for it for awhile, and boy am I glad it’s back in my life. This product gives you such an amazing exfoliation. Smooth skin and less irritation than a lot of other scrubs that I have used! I highly recommend this.

Sonia Kashuk Eyes on Neutral Palette: I have used this every single day since I got it. No joke. And I am falling more and more in love. These shadows blend so beautifully, and they are all matte. I will be buying a back up of this, hopefully if I can find one at Target before they shut down.

Cover Girl Ready Set Gorgeous! Foundation: I was surprised with this foundation. I have a full review coming this week, so stay tuned for that. The gist of it is, it doesn’t settle on my dry patches, and the coverage is really nice. I’m in the shade 120, which works for me, but I could have actually gone a shade lighter. (I’m translucent not very tanned in the winter.

Benefit Puff Off!: This product really smooths out my undereye area. The adorable packaging is not only eye catching, but practical. Keep this sucker in the fridge, and use it in the morning! It can be layered underneath another eye cream, and will iron out those undereye bags for you before (or after) you apply your makeup!

Garnier Damage Eraser Hair Mask: This was recommended by Tiffany D on YouTube, and I am really happy with it. It is so nourishing, but rinses clean and doesn’t leave my fine hair looking or feeling heavy. I’ve actually used this as my regular conditioner for awhile and I love it. I purchased the shampoo from the same line, but haven’t tried it out yet. Here’s hoping I love it!

Aveeno Ezcema Care Hand Cream: This has been a favorite for a few months! I finished a tube completely, and promptly repurchased. It’s the only hand cream that doesn’t irritate me when my Ezcema is flaring up on my hands. It makes me think that Oatmeal must be a truly magical ingredient.

2014 Favorites! Hair and Body Edition!

I am trying my best to muster up the energy to take down the Christmas Tree. I am starting at it over my laptop right now, and let me tell you, it is my Mount Everest. I have been so exhausted lately, this holiday season in retail has really done a number on me. I feel like I need a vacation somewhere super warm. Not that it’s been overly cold here, Halifax really hasn’t seen snow yet this year and I couldn’t be happier!

Anyway, to help procrastinate with taking the tree down, I thought I’d let you guys know about my 2014 favorites for Hair and Body!

L’oreal Elnett Hairspray: The only formula I will use from the line is the unfragranced version, as the other ones smell like vintage people. This hairspray gives such a fine mist, holds my curls, and never ever makes my hair feel brittle or crunchy. You can brush it through, and use as much as you like without having to worry about stiff looking brittle hair. It is amazing, and I don’t even know how many cans I have gone through!

Aveeno Eczema Care Hand Cream: I absolutely loved this product this year. I have serious ezcema on my hands, and if I don’t stay on top of my hand creams and the occasional steroid cream, my hands are a complete mess. This hand cream is under $10.00, and worked so well for me. Even on days that everything burns my hands, this saves me. I also love the Kiehl’s hand salve, but for the price difference, Aveeno takes favorite status.

Cliniderm Nutri Comfort Soothing Body Balm: This was the best body lotion I used all year. My legs can get super dry and itchy, and I need something that is super thick. This delivered everything I needed, but also allowed me to get dressed after applying. I wear black leggings pretty much everyday to work, and some lotions leave me flipping upside down and sideways trying to pull them up over my knees. (Does that ever happen to anybody else!? Sometimes I break a sweat just trying to put my damn pants on!) Unlike thick creams that need hours to sink in, or spray lotions that just don’t deliver enough moisture, this body balm is the perfect mix of nourishing, and convenient!

Fructis De-Constructed Texture Tease: I love this texture spray. It’s inexpensive, smells great, and does the job. It offers a bit of volume, but I really love it when I am wearing a bun or some sort of braids. It gives your hair the perfect amount of texture, without making it feel dirty, or greasy. My only thing that I’m not crazy about, is how it makes my hair tangle. I will continue to hunt for a texture spray, but this one was definitely the best I’ve tried in 2014.

Versace Bright Crystal: This fragrance took the top spot again for 2014. I just love it so much. It’s citrusy, mildly musky, and simply amazing. I get compliments every time I wear this, and the bottle itself is amazing!! (That matters to me!) If you guys haven’t smelled this yet, get your hands on one and give it a smell! It’s so feminine, but doesn’t smell like diabetes. (Seriously, some of the newer fragrances are so sweet, I could choke on them!)

Kerestase Heat Protectants: I have used the Nectar Thermique, and now have started trying this new (to me) formula for damaged hair. These heat protectants really did change my hair. They smooth frizz, hydrate my ends … They are beautiful. I am still on the hunt for a cheaper cream heat protectant, so if anyone knows about a good one, let me know! Until then, I will continue to use the Kerestase, because my hair loves it!

Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Mask: Sound the harps. This mask changed the game. Of course, I can’t get this in Halifax, so the next person I know that goes to London Drugs will have to stock up for me. This mask performed better than any higher end mask I have ever tried. It made my hair shockingly silky, and I’ve never had anything like this. I think I paid $6.00 USD for two of these last time I was in Florida. I bought one for me and one for Sabah, and we both fell in love.

Those are the standout products for 2014. What are your must have hair products!?

Sara’s October Favorites!

Fall is such a bittersweet time for me. I love the season. I love fall fashion, the trees look so pretty, and everybody loves a good pumpkin spice. But Fall means that Winter is coming, and I turn into an unreasonable sociopath in the Winter. The cold, the bad road conditions, having to wear 17 layers everywhere I go … It’s just a mess. I am a cranky bag from November until Spring. I clearly need to leave Canada for about 6 months of the year! (Any readers that live somewhere super warm? I’ll clean your makeup brushes as rent!) Luckily, I have my favorite products to get me through! Let’s get into them!

Caress Body Wash “Passionate Spell”: This was something I wanted to pick up when I was in Florida, because all of the You Tubers I watch rave about this. They weren’t lying when they said it was hard to find. I had to go to three stores before I found one that wasn’t sold out. This smells amazing, and it doesn’t dry my skin out. It is definitely on my list of things to purchase when I am in the US.

Grandiose Mascara: I have a full review of this product here. Not much more to say about it! Everybody has to splurge on a tube of this at least once.

Laura Mercier Ambre Vanille Bath: What an absolutely perfect product this is. I am OBSESSED. I fell in love when I saw that it came with a wooden honey stick, and the first time I used it, I thought “Why didn’t I buy five of these!!??” Again, something that you cannot buy in Canada. I am using this so sparingly, for fear of running out. I need more Laura Mercier bath products in my life. This bubbles so nicely, not too much. And it leaves my skin feeling like a silk sheet. I cannot rave about this enough!!

Maybelline Color Show polish in A Walk in the Park: This is more of a favorite because of the color, because I truly am not a fan of the brush of this polish. I am actually thinking about buying the Julep brush that you can use with any polish, because I cannot stand these skinny brushes on nail polishes. I prefer the Sally Hansen brushes! Anyway, this shade looks black from far away, but up close or in the light, you can tell it’s the perfect shade of forest green. I have been wearing this almost all month!

Kerestase Nectar Thermique: I knew from the start that I loved this product – but somewhere along the lines, I started taking it for granted because now it is so close to being empty, and I started using a new heat protectant from Redken (Review coming!) and the frizz in my hair is now out of control. I have recently cut my bangs and colored my hair super dark (I regret both of those things, can’t wait to go back to long bangs with ombre!) but none the less, something is off and I can say for sure that the frizz happens when I am not using this product. The price kills me, so if anyone has found a cream heat protectant from the drugstore that they love, PLEASE let me know! This stuff is so pricey, but I don’t have a choice but to repurchase because it is SO good!

Aveeno Eczema Hand Cream: This was an awesome find in October. I have very bad eczema flare ups on my hands and this is the first cream I’ve found that doesn’t sting me at all when I am in a flare up. I love the Caudalie hand cream to maintain, but when they are in their worst state, this stuff really takes care of them, and is much cheaper. It is also steroid free, so that gets bonus points!

Essence Bloom me Up! Duo Pencil!: This is a little mean, because this was a limited edition product from the Essence Spring collection. BUT- there is a dupe for it! This product is very similar to Benefit’s High Brow. I use both sides of this pencil (One side is a milky pink color for highlighting under your brow etc, and one side is a nude inner rim liner, that is also great to line around your mouth with!) I use this honestly every single day, and I plan on stealing Sabah’s because I know she bought it, and she never uses it. It’s creamy, so brightening, and lasts all day on my skin. This is your last warning to pick up the Essence limited edition collections. They have so many amazing products, and they are cheaper than dirt!
